Cormo Sheep & Wool Farm
Cormo and Colored Cormo X Covered Hogget Fleeces Shorn May, 2009
These are all hogget fleeces, from lambs that are very close to 1 year old. The colored fleeces are from Cormo crossbred sheep and the white fleeces are from ACSA registered Cormo sheep. All of the colored fleeces have some degree of color variegation throughout the fleece. Some of these fleeces have one or more light colored bands within the staple. This is due to a deficiency of the trace mineral copper at different times during the year. The strength or quality of the wool fibers are not affected, only the pigment. Sheep are very sensitive to excess copper so great care must be taken in balancing the mineral intake. The scanned locks don't do the colors justice but will give an approximation. I wish that you could all see these gorgeous colors and feel the wonderful softness in person. The fine crimp just doesn't show up well either on the scanned images. Although all of the sheep have been covered the babies have to reach a certain size before we can safely keep covers on them. Because of this and just the nature of lambs there will be more VM in the fleeces and more sun bleach on the tips. You may also notice that there is usually less consistency in the crimp along the length of the staple and possibly from head to tail through the fleece in the hogget fleeces than the adult fleeces. These hogget fleeces will have the lamb wool tips. They are very soft. These fleeces will most likely be the very softest fleeces these sheep will ever produce.
All of these sheep are for sale as well as the fleeces. Just like the fleeces please let me know immediately if you are interested on one of the sheep. I can help arrange transportation if necessary.
Comments of hand spinners who were helping skirt fleeces.

We apologize for raising prices on many of the colored fleeces this year. Like many others the bad economy has hurt us too. This year there has been a significant increase in our costs especially for shearing, feed and vet services and products.
